The Terry Fox Run

Imagine this, finally getting to start something
you love,
being able to show others what you can do. This was Terry Fox, just a regular
guy who wants to join basketball. One day he finally makes it, and after just a
short while he feels a sharp pain in his right knee. Sure enough this pain
cannot be ignored because, it turns out, he has osteosarcoma, a rare bone
cancer. This meant the end of his basketball season.
Terry
Fox is now one of many Canadian heroes, for attempting to run across our
country to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. Just
because Terry didn't make it, it doesn't mean this cause should stop, so on
Friday, September 27, Major School was ready to run. For about a month the
4/5/6 class and their wonderful supervisor Ms. Reichert, had been organizing
this great event. Well, let’s start from the very beginning.
The community
of Major was excited as they lined up, with the hot sun beating down on them, waiting
for the sign to start.
“Ready, Set,
GO!” shouted Mrs. Ross, the principal, and the crowd was off. All I could see
was heads bobbing as they bolted towards the next corner while we were off on
our way to set up the water station. Luckily, we beat the crowd, but we forgot
the cups! Ms. Komar, our helper for the water station, quickly drove back to
the school as I started to get worried. She grabbed the cups, and then she
grabbed her phone for music. Unfortunately, a lot of thirsty people passed
while Ms. Komar was hurrying to get back, so they just squirted refreshing
water into their thirsty mouths. It was so amazing how many tired people from
the community passed by. It felt great to encourage them when I gave them water
to help them keep going. I especially loved it when I got to run with them for
a short distant, until AJ, my partner, handed them their water, even though I
was wearing slippers! After a little while, we thought we were done so we drove
over to see if any thirsty runners were still out there. Then we went back to
the school and snacked on some of the delicious leftover snacks.
Major
School’s Terry Fox Run was a great success, raising $1890 for cancer research, which
is more than last year! Although the Run
is over for the year, it doesn't mean we should stop making miracles. Even if I don’t finish we need others to continue. Terry Fox

All About Yours Truly
Hi! My name is
Kara I am 11 years old. I live in on a farm in Saskatchewan; I come from near a
small town or as others call us, a small village. I think I’m average height
for my age, but I am one of the tallest in my grade. I have brown wavy hair and
my eyes are hazel when you look at them really closely. My favourite color is
blue and green and I love dancing and playing the piano. I don’t exactly have a
best friend because everybody at my school is friends.
I love my
family. In my family I am the middle child. I have an older brother named Sam
(short for Samuel) and a younger brother named Ben (short for Benjamin and my
full name is Kara). All of us are still in school. Sam is in grade 8, Ben is in
grade 4 and I am in grade 6. We live with both my mom and my dad. My mom is a
substitute teacher and my dad is a full time farmer. I come from a kind of big
family with about 10 cousins on each side.
My 2 favorite
subjects in school are art and ELA because I love to draw, write, and express
myself. 2 of my favourite animals are zebras and polar bears which is weird
because they are so different, but they are both really cute. I love to read
and I have read so many books so it’s really hard to pick a favourite book but
I love Louis Sacher and Rick Riordan because they have written some really
great books. I don’t really have a favorite movie but I love Kindergarten Cop and The Scream Team. A couple good songs are
Roar by Katy Perry and Both Sides, now a remake by Carly Rae Jepsen.

What I Value in OTHERS
I value understanding in a friend. Understanding is when
someone knows/feels what you are going through. I value this because it makes
you and your friend closer as friends. Your friend is someone you can talk to.
I like it when my friends are apologetic. When people say
sorry, they are being apologetic. I like
this because it helps you be better friends. When people say sorry it means
they realize what they did.
I like it when others are fun. When people are fun they just
look on the bright side of things and are just silly. I value this quality
because it’s good when people aren't serious all the time. I like to have fun
and I want my friends to too.

What I Value in MYSELF
I value honesty in myself. Honesty is when you tell the
truth. I value this because I want people to -believe me and trust me. When people
trust me then I can trust them.
In me, I value positivity. When I look on the bright side of
things, I am being positive. I want people to look to me for help. I want to
smile even when it’s hard.
I want to be helpful to others. Being helpful is when I help
others with doing anything. If I am
helpful people will feel happy to have an extra hand. I want others to be
helpful and if I am helpful then so will they.

Math Graph
Below you will see a graph that I made at school. I went around the school asking, "What is your favourite Holiday?" Their choices were New Years, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, summer, Canada Day, back 2 school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthday, other, or none. I found out that for boys and girls the most popular is summer followed by Christmas. Tied for last are Thanksgiving, Canada day, back 2 school, and Valentines day. My Results weren't very surprising. What Holiday would you choose?

The Mealworm Diaries By: Anna Kerz
The Mealworm Diaries is a book about Jeremy, a boy who has just moved from
the relaxing Ocean in Nova Scotia to the noisy streets in Toronto. His new
school takes a lot of getting used to, especially when you’re paired with the
most annoying kid for the whole science unit! Will Jeremy fit in or will he be
laughed at just because of the accident? Find out by reading The Mealworm
Diaries!
I think others should read this book because it is very entertaining! When I
first read this book well, I couldn't stop! It is a real page turner and it
leaves you in cliff hanging positions. I think anyone ages 8-12 would enjoy
this book girls or boys!
